Senior Session Prep!
Hey seniors! Your big moment in front of the camera is coming up—and trust me, it’s going to be a vibe. Whether you're hyped up or feeling a little nervous, I’ve got your back with some tried-and-true tips to help you show up looking and feeling like the absolute best version of you.
Here’s how to prep like a pro for your senior session:
💄 Hair & Makeup: Test Drive That Glow
You don’t want to try a new look for the first time the day of your shoot. That smokey eye might be fierce... but not if it makes you blink like you're allergic to confidence. Do a trial run! Practice your hair and makeup beforehand to make sure it’s comfortable, long-lasting, and something you genuinely love. Stick to a style that feels like you, not like a YouTube tutorial gone rogue.
👗 Outfit Planning: The Earlier, The Better
Trust me—last-minute shipping stress is not the vibe. Order or pick your outfit early, and try it on to make sure everything fits the way you want. Bonus points if you do a little walk around the house to make sure you can move, sit, and pose comfortably. You’ll thank yourself later!
💎 Less Is More
You don’t need to look like you raided a jewelry store or auditioned for a music video. Simple, timeless pieces usually photograph best. That dainty necklace or your go-to jeans? Those often win out over sequins and stacked bangles. Let yourself be the center of attention.
🧼 Bring a Touch-Up Kit
Even the best makeup needs a little check-in mid-session. I recommend packing a few essentials: hairbrush, extra hair ties, bobby pins, lipstick or gloss, and maybe some blotting sheets if you get a little shiny. It's the survival kit of the photo shoot world.
💅 Nail Check: They Matter!
Your hands will be in the spotlight more than you think—think ring shots, cap tossing, and hands-in-hair poses. A simple manicure (even if it's clear polish or just a tidy file and buff) can go a long way. Clean, neat nails = effortless polish in your pics.
🎉 Bring a Hype Buddy
Want to laugh naturally in your photos? Bring your bestie! A friend can help bring out those real smiles, hype you up, and hold your stuff between shots. Bonus points if they bring snacks or remind you how iconic you look. (We all need that energy.)
👓 Glasses Wearers, Listen Up
Glasses are great—but they can reflect light and create glare in photos. If you wear them daily, consider switching to contacts for the shoot, or plan to take a few photos with and without them. Heads-up: if you’ve got transition lenses, they’ll go dark outdoors—something to keep in mind if you’re dreaming of sunny shots!
💇♂️ Guys, This One’s for You
Book your haircut about a week before the session. That gives your hair time to settle and look natural—not freshly buzzed or overly styled. Trust the process, and don’t overdo the gel. Your future self will thank you.
🥂 Props = Personality
Bring a little something that screams you. A cap and gown? Champagne (for that iconic pop)? Your letterman jacket? A cute sign or confetti popper? Let’s do it! Just make sure that if it makes a mess, you’ve got a plan to clean it up. (We like sparkle, not litter.)
💧The Glow Starts Before the Shoot
Want to look and feel amazing? Hydrate, get a good night’s sleep, and maybe ease up on sugary snacks the day before. Fresh skin and bright eyes start with a little self-care. It’s like prepping for a selfie, but in real life.
🚫 Skip the Spray Tan
I know, I know—it sounds like a good idea. But last-minute spray tans can leave uneven tones, orange undertones, or streaks that love to photobomb. Embrace your natural glow and let the light do its thing!
No matter what, remember: your senior session is about celebrating you. Be yourself, have fun, and let’s make some magic. ✨
